I really like what Gary did with his and maybe he could get some pics. The top/lid to his is what you need to see. With the 2 barrels your getting it will be real easy to do for a master fabricator like you.

ok so I found out that oil was stored in the barrels that I have access to. Should I pass on them or is it still ok to use to cook/smoke food in?

If it isn't some super toxic chemical, they should be fine. Just burn em out with a few pallets and get the fire nice and hot. If the outside paint doesn't burn off, it wasn't hot enough. After you get it burned out, scrub it out with degreaser and then rinse it well before starting your seasoning run. For the seasoning run, just spray the inside of the drum with PAM or some other cooking oil and then get it up to 300 - 350* for 4 or 5 hours.

FWIW my drum, Jesse's drum and Gary's drum all held motor oil previously.
